Formula Drift Singapore 2011

At the start of Saturday morning Practice Run,

The Pits was busy with the drifters lining up
waiting for their go-ahead

The crews of some were busy prepping the cars..
The wait at the start line is highly adrenaline-thumping for all..
My iPhone is good for certain panning shots...
capturing the Sparks Chaser is no easy task though

While the Pits was busy with all the cars launching off the Start Line, the Interactive Village was by no means any less busy...

Sparks Motorsports came with a full contingent of
performance vehicles on display at the entrance...
The Red Supra drew much attention from the crowd..
as the Supra is literally extinct on the Singapore roads!
Mitsubishi and Ralliart came in with a Evo X and the ASX...
The FD Official Booth (where I am based) saw FD enthusiasts
browsing the Limited Edition goodies...
FD caps anyone?
Taking a break from the merchandise booth
we had our fun in balancing ourselves on Telsa
E-mobility vehicle!

Eventual Podium finishers for the Singapore league....
1st goes to Diago Saito of Team Sparks Motorsports
2nd goes to Saranon Pornpatanarak of Team M150 Storm
3rd goes to Ken Gushi for Team Sparks Motorsports

Can't wait for the next league in Thailand...

JUN Cams Tuning

Been driving for nearly two weeks following the installation of the cams without retuning of my existing UNICHIP piggyback. Car feels unresponsive at low revs and at times even jerky, although my butt feel tells me that there is a lot of potential that has yet to be released from the cams installation. Idling wise it was very stable to my surprise as I have held the thoughts that after cams installation the idling will be very unstable.

After a long wait of  2 weeks, my tuner from Speed D finally managed to hook up a time slot at Dyno Technica to run the retuning. The chart before installation of the cams and the after-chart tuning with the cams have been attached below:

Dynochart before tuning with JUN cams

Dynochart after tuning with JUN cams

Overall there is a gain in peak HP from the initial 124HP to 144HP. In terms of peak torque there is neglible change from the original 174NM, although now from 4.2K RPM onwards the torque hovers between 155NM to 174NM, a vast difference as compared before tuning where after 4.2kRPM the torque starts to dip. This alters the optimum torque range of the car, giving it more mid to high end response, though with the sacrifice of low end power.

This is overall a good installation for those who goes on the track, where the optimum RPM band occurs past the 4k RPM. A satisfactory purchase indeed!

Cams Out Cams In (Part II - Installation)

Original decal that accompanies the cams
Finally I had the JUN cams installed just yesterday at Riverview Auto. It was an unexpectedly fast job as I think the mechanics there should be all zai liao, with all the rest of the Cams group buy customers rushing there for installation one week back upon getting the cams!

Original stock cams still in place

After the installation was completed, the car overall feels much torquier and very much willing to rev!

However the last part of the puzzle is still missing and that is the part on re-tuning the parameters for the Unichip. Right now the car drives pretty much ok, albeit with jerky move off from Gear 1 and 2.

Best part of the installation is the reverberation of the lumpy idle in the cabin while the car is well, at idle. Idle RPM is stable at a slightly higher 900+ rpms as compared to the usual 700+ before the installation.

Can u tell if these are stock or JUN's?

Glimpse of the piston chambers with the cams removal!
Stay tuned for the final part of the Cams installation in the coming week ahead!

Till then....

JUN cams installation (Part I - Collection)

Finally after two weeks of waiting the stock from Japan finally arrives in Singapore!
The stock arrived (1 set of 2 cams for intake and exhaust) with a nice-looking decal from JUN as well...

I will wait another week before the starting the installation! Cant wait to see how much gain could be achieved after installation and tuning!

JUN cams specifications: , a
Duration 66 Valve Lift 9.5mm

While collecting the cams at a workshop, I came across an Audi TT doing its servicing on the hoist with its engine bay exposed. Can't help taking a snapshot of the engine bay with its matt black intake pod (brand unknown). Am sure the car would make a sweet induction roar when initiated!

Porsche Sighting

Driving down AMK on an early Sat morning, a big round-eyed Porsche in my right-hand mirror caught my attention. Well it is not the usual array of Boxsters or Cayman S-s! Rather, this Porsche most certainly belongs to the 90's, in my opinion the glorious heydays of automotive creation.

I'm suspecting that this is what I saw!

Well I am not one who's able to identify what breed and model of Porsche this is, lets just say it bears a resemblance to the Porsche 911 Turbo of today, given its stance and exterior body appearance. This car is not a common sight on the local Singapore road, and immediately my eyes follow as it drove past me. Really wanting to catch additional glimpse(s) of the car, I drove after it and manage to catch up with me thankfully (not that I am a good driver or my car is fast) with the onwards progress of the Porsche hampered by the numerous slower vehicles and traffic light at every single junction along the stretch of AMK Ave 5. It was the red light at one of the junctions that allow me to come from behind the Porsche and admire its rear outlook! What a sight! Those massive ground hugging tires (they look either 19 or 20 inch) and the humongous rear spoiler attracts me to want to snap a shot of the car. Unfortunately only my iPhone was available and the picture you see below is as such........
